Healing Hearts Sanctuary SoCal follows the Best Friends Animal Society’s model for lifesaving.

Across the country, millions of outdoor cats live in parks, alleys, backyards and abandoned buildings. These cats are known as Community Cats. They are not owned, not lost and many are not socialized to humans. Removing them doesn’t work. It has been tried for more than 50 years and every time, new cat simply move in. That’s why Best Friends Animal Society developed a humane, science-backed solution.

How TNVR Helps Cats and People

How TNVR Helps Cats and People

NOTE: TNR steps are the same with the exception of step 3

  1. Humane Trapping-cats are trapped using safe, calm and humane methods.
  2. Spay (females) Neuter (males) Surgery-stops the cycle of endless litters and stabilizes populations.
  3. Vaccination (Rabies, FVRCP, plus FeLV for kittens)-protects cats and the community.
  4. Ear Tipping-a small, painless removal of the tip of the left ear (universal sign of a sterilized TNVR cat.
  5. Return-cats are returned to the outdoor homes they know, where they continue to live safely.

Why TNVR Works

Why TNVR Works

  1. Reduces shelter intakes (cats taken in to the shelters)
  2. Prevents unnecessary euthanasia (due to overcrowding in shelters)
  3. Reduces nuisance behaviors (howling, fighting, spraying)
  4. Protects public health through vaccination
  5. Builds trust between shelters, rescues, and residents (all working together to save lives)
  6. Saves taxpayers dollars (win-win for everyone)
